random geeky thoughts

[wall-e] tree in a boot! tree in a boot!
Yay I finally got my Beauty and the Beast DVD back... I think I might go watch it today at some point. I haven' seen that movie in about six years, so it'll be fun!

Um... today was cool, I guess. I'm pretty tired after getting to sleep at like 1:30 last night... so I'll be heading off to bed early tonight, haha.

I was talking to Shaina and Jessica today about how some movies just get marketed totally wrong. I think it has to do with American's preconceptions about fantasy and animated films. For example, the The Golden Compass, which was definitely NOT a kiddy series by any definition of the word, as dumbed down and marketed towards children. And because of that, it bombed at the box office.

Also, that got me thinking about The Iron Giant and how it didn't do well thanks to it's ad campaign... yes, some kids did love that movie, but it was a pretty dark movie and the trailers didn't make it seem like it. Shaina and Jessica both said that they thought that movie was boring when they saw it in elementary school, but I think if they saw it now, they'd really enjoy it. (Heck, Shaina's favorite movie is The Incredibles, and that's also Brad Bird.) I know I did when I watched it a couple of weeks ago. (I need to get that on DVD...)

So yeah... just sick of how the entertainment industry treats fantasy and animated films as automatically kid's movies. Not like there's anything bad about stuff for kids, but some films just... won't be enjoyed as much by kids in general.

Don't know if that made any sense... what do you guys think?

Your main fandom of the year? Avatar... and WALL-E. Wow, those fandoms like divided my year in half... Avatar finale came soon after WALL-E came out... it was almost like the end of an era and the beginning of another. NO THAT DOES NOT MEAN I DONT STILL LOVE AVATAR. I just don't paticipate in fandom much save talking to you guys on my flist. ^^

Your favourite film watched this year? WALL-E, of course! It's my favorite film I've watched in my entire life... as melodramatic as that sounds, it's true.

Your favourite book read this year? I.... didn't... read any good books. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? I NEAD TO REEEEAD MORE. D: Too bad I'm such a visual person, lol.

Your favourite album or song to listen to this year? WALL-E soundtrack , Viva La Vida, Begin to Hope, X&Y, various other songs that I become obsessed with easily.

Your favourite TV show of the year? AVATAR. DUURR.

Your favourite LJ community of the year? [info]wall_e_rp

Your best new fandom discovery of the year? WALL-E OF COURSE. I got into Avatar in 2007...

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year? Hm... Twilight fandom and their massive amounts of fail?

Your TV boyfriend of the year? Hmm... Sokka and WALL-E. LOL, I like my adorkable guys. <3 (BTW, WALL-E would have to... not be a robot. haha)

Your TV girlfriend of the year? Azula, Suki, and EVE. Hey, I like my fiery, tomboyish (but not really) girls. <3

Your biggest squee moment of the year? AVATAR FINALE. OH SHIT MAN. I WAS ON THE COUCH SCREAMING AN D CURSING AND LOOKING LIKE AN IDIOT. AND IT WAS AMAZING <3

The most missed of your old fandoms? N/A

The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to? I dont really have any interest in paticipating in a new fandom yet... I just want to sit back, enjoy WALL-E and my Avatar friends, and have fun. ^^ Though I am getting pretty interested in Zelda... I dont feel a need to dive into fandom.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year? Up! And hopefully WALL-E will win some great awards. And... Mike and Bryan announcing a new series that they're working on. (Hey, I can dream right?)

BTW this song was like... written about me. Except for my life is not as depressing.

Yeah, animated =/= kid's movie. Imagine the poor kids taken to see the animated Animal Farm, for instance. And I know the animated LoTR scared the holy hell outta me when I was little (like, four), though I think that may also have been HOW it was animated. Please take into account my fear of Nightmare Before Christmas (a movie I ADORE now) from seeing it at the same age. In conclusion, my LJ interest "cartoons are not inherently for kids."

I loved Iron Giant when I was 11, though.

Yeah I would've loved The Iron Giant as a kid, but it's definitely not your mainstream "kid's movie". I think 11 is around the age you start to understand movies like more anyways.. me and my friends were maybe in 4th grade?

I watched Nightmare Before Christmas for the first time recently also... and yeah, it would've freaked me out when I was younger. XD

I might have to steal your interest. XD

Feel free! :D I steal interests all the time. And I was lucky with Iron Giant. I was 11 when it came out (I LOVE being the exact right age for things!).
